Opening hears opening homes

Why become a carer?

“It’s been wonderful to be able help a child. But it’s also been incredibly good for my whole family.”

We all want to help make the world a better place, don’t we? And for most of us, the best way to make a contribution is right here, in our own communities. By opening your heart and your home as a foster carer, you’ll become the most important member of a team providing support to a child or teenager in need. And that’s a contribution that can make a real difference.

Making the world a better place, one child at a time.

Making a real and lasting difference to the life of a child or young person can be a wonderful experience. Research has shown that quality foster care can vastly improve a child’s future and greatly reduce their chances of homelessness, unemployment, mental and physical health concerns, and involvement with the criminal justice system.

A great learning experience.

As a foster carer, you will learn more about yourself and how you relate and respond to children. If you have children, it can be a wonderful way to teach them about the value of their own safe and loving environment. Many children who grow up with foster children in their home go on to contribute as a volunteer or foster themselves.
